This post could really have a part 1 and part 2. The project was simply to make a few more skirts/dresses for my daughter to wear to church. I looked through my stashes and my online tutorials and decided to try this cute skirt (this dress is to follow).

I made it a little long and loose so she'd be able to wear it longer. I like making her things, but I'd also like to not have to re-do the same projects every couple of months. :)

For this project I followed this tutorial. It's really quite sad that it's taken me so long to finish this project...I managed to take all the dimensions in this tutorial, scale them down and make a custom sheet for a travel bassinet before I managed to simply follow the tutorial as is. Oh well I guess! It's done now and her cute little happy giggle when she saw it is all I needed to make it all worth while!

Finish Something I Start: #1 Urban Bonnet

Last year, after showing my husband one of these hats, he declared that we wouldn't need to buy any because he could make me a pattern. So I went shopping for some cute fabric! Then we moved across the country. And then it started raining. A lot. Because it likes to do that here. So it took awhile before we set down to make one, but we finally made a summer one:

There were kinks in our pattern (hence the darts) but we thought with one more draft we'd get it right. 6 months later I finally decide it's time to try again, mostly due to this challenge. :) This time I made a winter version, using fleece as the inside material- which you can't see in the pictures. We changed the pattern, but still ended up having to use darts. Maybe this spring when I try yet again, we'll finally get it right!

I got a pattern from a friend of mine a year ago and have made a handful of these bibs since. They are my favorite and do a really good job at covering kids' shirts and catching most of the messy spills.

Two of my kids needed Halloween shirts this year, and since I wasn't a fan of any that the stores were selling, I went with some reverse applique ones!

I think they turned out cute and the kids really like them, so I guess we'll do this again next year!

I started with a tutorial online, but theirs was oval and I didn't want an oval basket. So we got out a paint can, traced the circle onto paper, made a rectangle, and got to work! When I find the tutorial again, I post a link to it. :)

**no pattern- just need a strip of fabric, a glue gun, and of course a headband. :) Then you just twist and turn, glue and go. Easy.

I found this tutorial on how to put these owls on a shirt, but decided instead to paint it onto a paper, just like the silhouettes! I love how it turned out!

Baby legs!

I've been seeing these lately around blog land and picked up a pair of socks from Target on our last visit there. I didn't really follow any set tutorial/pattern. I just kind of winged it!

What I did:

-took a pair of womens knee socks

-cut of the foot (right where the sock began to curve for the foot)

-measured out the size of elastic (I made it a little loose around her ankles with the intent that as she grew, they would still fit her. That and I didn't want elastic lines on my baby's ankle.)

-sewed the elastic together

-turned the sock inside out

-folded over the top (of the bottom) of the sock, encasing the elastic inside

-tacked it down with pins

-sewed around the edge (making sure not to sew the elastic!)

I made these so the top of the sock would go on her thighs. This wasn't the most effective way for doing these...but it did work! For a good tutorial, check out this site.

A friend of mine sent me this link and I knew Little Miss had to have one made out of the awesomely cute fabric I found a week prior. I finished it in a day, and even made it reversible! I love that the pattern isn't really a pattern. It's more of a 'this is how to measure your kids head to make one to fit' kind of a thing. :)

In walking the aisles of Walmart a few weeks ago I found a shirt that I just couldn't wait for my daughter to wear. So I decided to turn it into a dress with just a few easy stitches from my sewing machine! Pretty darn easy! (just follow the little blue lines!)

*I didn't think to take a picture of the front of the shirt (not to mention the right side of the shirt...), but it's got rouching at the shoulders with little purple bows. SO cute!

In a history lesson that we did in homeschool, we learned that you're not supposed to 'wear' the flag unless it is on an official uniform. So we opted out of buying flag shirts from Old Navy this year and just made some for the kids who needed them. This was for my oldest. (I made the stars the same was I made the Superman shirt, and followed my sons instructions as to what he wanted and where.)

I saw this tutorial and thought I would try my hand at making one! So quick and easy (you can just use scraps- or be like me and cut some :) + use some extra ribbon)! And I think it'll be great for the 4th! My only regret-not braiding it tight enough. Next time, next time...

Father's Day painted t-shirt

I followed My Projects tutorial (which can actually be found here, at our kidz crafts blog) to make this shirt for my dh. The boys thought it was super cool and 2 out of 3 loved getting paint all over their hands! (The baby screamed while I did her foot too...2 out of 4 then!)

Knitted diaper cover

Wool diaper covers are amazing at a handful of things. They repel water, absorb moisture and allow breathability, which other diaper covers do not. We bought one (that we love) but then decided to knit our own. I found a pattern and got to work. We now own 2 larges (pictured) in green and red, a small in brown, and a medium in pink. I'm really liking how soft they are!

Button Headband

We were asked to provide a snack for my sons kindergarten graduation 'ceremony'. I saw this idea here and knew it would be a cute, quick, and fun thing to make! We made two bags worth (with the help of a friend), and sure enough, we only came home with a handful left over!

Picture frame clip holder

We have gotten/been given/made SO many clips for our sweet little girl that I have had to update her clip holder! I've seen many ideas like this on blogs and decided to go for it!

Materials needed:

picture frame (I would have loved to have gone to goodwill to find a totally awesome vintage frame, I just didn't have the time or energy!)

I love how it turned out! And I even like that I have a few more spots to fill before I have to stop acquiring cute clips for her hair! :)

Washer Necklaces

This craft idea is all because of my dh who, knowing me very well, bought a stamping set to make me a necklace for Mother's Day, and then gave me the stamping set as part of my gift!! We immediately sat down to do some crafting together, which was so much fun!

We are behind a tad on presents for nieces and nephews (due to baby), so we decided to catch up a bit. Here are the few that we made this afternoon:

Minky blanket

While shopping at Joannes, I came across a free pattern for this blanket and knew I *needed* to make one for our little girl. :) Here's how it came out:

And here are the instructions:

SUPPLIES AND TOOLS NEEDED
1 yd fabric for the front
2 yds fabric for the back and ruffle
matching thread
basic sewing supplies
sewing machine

DIRECTIONS
1. Cut fabric for front and back 35"x45".
2. Cut 7 strips 5" wide by 45" long for ruffle.
3. Sew ends of ruffle, right sides together using 1/2" seam allowance. Press seams open.
4. With wrong sides together, fold ruffle in half and machine gather raw edge. Baste ruffle to right side of blanket front adjusting gathers to fit.
5. Sew front to back, right sides together using 1/2" seam allowance and leaving opening for turning.
6. Trim corners, turn right side out. Slip stitch opening closed.

I took some receiving blankets I had been given and turned them into, well...those things that you put on top of the changing mat, so when they pee, you don't have to wash the changing cover every time. See. Puddle Pads is much shorter. :)

Burp cloths:from Brother to sister

I held out for a little while- like I needed anymore projects to do!- but what mom could resist them wanting to do something for their little sister?!) and I decided to make her a few new burp cloths. Cloth Diaper wipes

Easy to make. We took the measurement of my husbands hands (the largest hands to use them) and cut out squares. (Ours were 8x8) Then I did a zig zag stitch around the edges.

I have made a few other diaper things, just haven't taken pictures. Since I don't think I will, here's a run down: zorb doublers and doublers from a cloth diaper-6 out of one diaper.

Cloth diapers have been on my mind for some time now...like 2-3 years. I finally decided that I just needed to try them so that we could either join the cloth diapering club, or I could put it out of my mind forever. :) A friend of mine recently started and had tons of great, cheap ideas to share with me! She had ordered grips of a fabric called procare and had tons of extra to share (along with the velcro and f.o.e.). She even had made a pattern to use too!! So, after paying her back and ordering the pre-folds or total starting cost ended up being $45.00. Not bad at all for 20 diapers! (Compared to the $200 you can spend for 12!) And the best thing yet is that I actually don't mind them at all!! Yipee!

burp cloths - boy style

A few, well actually, all my friends who are pregnant, are having boys. And since we're all due within weeks of each other (some as close as a day!) I wanted to make sure that I had their gifts completely ready! So I found this adorable pirate ducky fabric and busted out 4 burp cloths. (They look so cute frayed!!)

I decided with this first hat that I didn't want another newborn baby size hat. (I mean, she is going to be born in May...that's considered summer where we live!) So I upped the size of the needle to a 9. Yeah... turns out, she may not be wearing this hat for quite some time!! (It fits the head of my now 2 year old. :) ) But I liked all the fun patterns and thought the addition of the button was fun!

Now if I had to pick a favorite hat, this would be it. LOVE the colors. LOVE how easy it was to make. LOVE the flower.

*I used the needle sizes in the pattern, but since I used 4 ply wool yarn, there's no way it's a size newborn. Which I'm happy about!

Receiving blankets

I don't know if you're like me, but I hate the so called receiving blankets that you buy at the stores. Who are they supposed to fit?! After learning this with our first, we've set about with each of our kids to make our own (obviously for the first three we didn't keep making them new ones, but we'd add one here and there. Until now. :) ). I take my pregnant self down to whatever fabric store I can find, pick out cute flannel, and say 'I want this cut to the square!' Then presto chango, I've got a nice big blanket to wrap the heck out of my cute little babies! (Some of which were not too happy about that fact!)

Burp Cloths

I found the pattern for these here, and immediately feel in love!!! How cute are these?! They are very easy to make, and have I said how cute they are?! Starting at the bottom, and working your way up, every two burp cloths were made with the same fabric, I just wanted to show the front and back of each one. I'm holding off on making more for our baby until I see what we get at my shower, but if I'm in need of more, I won't hesitate to bust out a few more of these!!! (Plus I found some adorable fabric to make a few of these for gifts too!!)

Now all I have to do is throw these bad boys into the washer/dryer a few times and the edges will fray up very nicely!

Blocking

I have made quite a few scarves in my little over a year career with knitting, but this has been the first one that I have had the need to block. It was a daunting task, I thought at first, but after wards learned that it was very easy and painless! I am now working on another scarf that will also need to be blocked and have no fear whatsoever of that thought! :)

There is a hat that I made that goes with this scarf-matching. Unfortunately, in my typical fashion, I forgot to take a picture of it. I hope to make a set for myself, as this was a gift, but until then, just picture the pattern as a hat and you'll pretty much have the idea of it!

A good friend of mine is having twins in just a couple of months, so of course I set out to make her something!! Thanks to our local Wal-mart, we no longer have the semi decent selection of yarn we once did, so blankets were out of the picture. Hats then maybe? Checked, and yep, I had enough yarn!! So here are the final results.

Boys' ties

Here are the ties that I made for my brother-in-laws recent wedding. I have made one of the styles before for my sisters wedding, and they are pretty easy. They don't look too much like 'normal' ties, but for little guys, I don't think it matters too much. The third tie, for my oldest, took a little more of my time. We could find a tying tie pattern for little kids, so we took the adult pattern and shrunk it down. I had to do a little finagling, but it turned out okay in the end!

Projects for the happy couple

Just recently, my husbands brother got married to our wonderful new sister-in-law. I wanted to make them a few things, so this is what I have been up to the past few months:

(Vinyl lettering, reversed and placed on the inside of the frame. I backed the cardboard with a piece of yellow fabric.)

(I thought it would be cute to make them matching scarves to wear in the winter. These two are made using a Daisy stitch.)

Closet project

Ever since we've moved the boys into this room, I've been wanting to redo the closet to be able to hang their clothes in it. Finally we got around to it, and this is how it turned out!

(I didn't get a picture of it, but that side of the closet originally had a huge plastic shelving system in it that held some of our food storage on the upper shelves, and the boys' toys on the lower shelves.)

Baby Blankets

Babies, babies, babies!! So many babies have come already this year! Sure has kept me busy! Here are a few that I have been busy making:

This one is also for my friend (JH). She does not know what she is having, and so wanted a blanket that would be okay for either. (I agreed, but only if she would let me make her a gender appropriate one too. See below :-) )

The blue one is for the a fore mentioned friend of mine (JH) who does not know what she will be having. I say a boy, which is why the blur one is done and the pink one is not! ;-) (I have also made another one like this for a friend of mine (CS) earlier this year.) The yellow one is for my sister. She is having a boy, but loves the color yellow. :-)

Ian's Stocking

I actually finished this one a couple of weeks ago, but I just now got a picture of it. Ian's is special due to the fact that he got to pick it out himself. No one else, besides Daddy, has been old enough to do that! He was really big on Santa (HoHoHo as he called him) last year, hence his stocking. It was one of the easiest and fastest ones I've ever made!

I have been working on Christmas Stockings for some time now...T.J.s since he was a baby! Besides our family (Trevor, T.J., Ian, and Andrew), I also decided to make one for my mom and my step-dad. It's been crazy trying to get them all done for this Christmas, and unfortunately, not all of them are going to be ready for this year. :( I'm still trying though, so we'll see what we end up with!

This is my Step-Dads stocking that he will be getting for Christmas! He recently came up for a visit and left with a motorcycle, so I thought this one would be appropriate!
